Waves - The New Swoosh?

logo-swoosh.gif

I personally am a HUGE fan of curvy logos.

sswebsmall.jpg<<Mine is my own case in point.

From the article: “It does not matter if a single wave is used or is incorporated into the design; the round shapes give it flexibility so that the viewer gets a sense of movement and of communication. “Waves” are a good strategy to suggest the feelings of movement, transfer, quickness and connection. They are not easy to use, but if you master the technique, you can produce and optimize the effect.”

Transparency - Good for Web/Color Prints, Bad for Everything Else

I would agree with this user comment: “your comments in regards to transparency are themselves transparent. for instance, how would you imagine the darien library logo reproduced in white paint when needed to be painted on a golf course or tennis court?”

Now granted, a library’s logo probably isn’t going to be used in the way the user describes. However, he still has a valid point. What if the Olympic logo was done in transparencies? Would it still have the same punch when then painted, even in color, on a field or wall? Someday, the technology will be there for superior printing everywhere… but not yet. (If someone knows that it is, please let me know!)

The “New Crest” - or Return of Grunge

image08_10.gif

I.Love.These.Logos.

From the article: “With the clever combination of medieval symbolism and urban culture graphic elements, the New Crest logos appealed to the youth when they first appeared. Eventually, they were also adopted and embraced by the extreme sports and boarding communities everywhere. At the same time they were used by well known graphic designers for big clients like MTV etc….One word of caution: new crest logos are not for beginners.”

Wow…the last statement is (unfortunately ridiculously) true! I’ve tried to come up with something of this nature, aaaaaaaaaand…. no. But persistence will prevail! :)
